2020 – Home Tour

In 2019-2020, the COVID-19 pandemic upended our world. Conducting an in-person house tour
was impossible, yet it was felt that staying engaged with our membership and the public was an
important responsibility. A group of VASF members, including then-president Rob Thomson,
came together to create something new. Under the guidance of member Fiona MacDougall, a
professional videographer and project manager for her firm One World Communications (OWC),

A video series was created focused on themes of interest for online viewing. This allowed the
Victorian Alliance to reach a wider, more diverse audience at a time when in-person interaction was
restricted.

Viewers were able to see inside beautiful Victorian homes of San Francisco. They met the
owners and artisans who care for and restore them. They heard the houses’ stories and
experienced San Francisco’s heritage.
We had thousands of views, far beyond the reach of our normal in-person events. The online tour
was free, with the videos releasing each week for six weeks, ending with a seminar about historic
preservation. Our community of volunteer members and several larger donations all helped pay
for the cost of the six-video production that you can continue to see here today. Please enjoy this
wonderful set of videos that showcase several of our city’s most spectacular homes, their
craftsmanship, and their caretaker’s passion for preserving historic resources.
