2022 Hybrid Home Tour

HOME / 2022 Hybrid Home Tour

The 2022 Victorian Alliance Hybrid House Tour followed the 2020 virtual tour. Still focused on personal safety as the COVID-19 pandemic receded, tourgoers experienced the homes through a self-guided walk, using online maps to access historical information on homes within three
distinct neighborhoods: Pacific Heights, Upper Haight, and the Western Addition including Alamo Square. It was a successful experience for the Alliance, as we tested new ways to create a historic house tour. Our theme was “Finding a Sense of Place in San Francisco: Exploring how
Victorian homes keep us grounded in a high-tech world.”

The tour ran for one month, with two in-person events. One was at the Haas-Lilienthal House in collaboration with SF Heritage. The second at the SF Main Public Library in collaboration with SFPL. They provided opportunities to bring like-minded organizations and people together. They were a continuing discussion about the value of historic homes/buildings and their cultural meaning for communities today, as San Francisco prepares for more home construction in the coming years. Both events were well attended and moved discussions forward about what it means to find a sense of place in San Francisco.

Victorian Alliance members Fiona MacDougall and Jonathan Villet of One World Communications produced two videos for this tour.

DISCOVER THE NEIGHBORHOODS in self-guided tours for 3 significant San Francisco neighborhoods: Pacific Heights, Haight Ashbury, and the Western Addition at Alamo Square. Discover and rediscover these neighborhoods as you walk about. Enjoy the feeling of “place.”

IS FINDING A SENSE OF PLACE IMPORTANT? Saturday, October 22, 10–11:30 am 2022 , at the San Francisco Main Public Library, at the Latino/Hispanic Room, lower level.
