From Columns to Cool — Victorian Buildings in San Francisco Culture
See how the Victorian era gave us many marvelous technologies of modern times, and set the stage for the art and culture for which our city is famous. Also you’ll hear about how Victorian buildings are a unique source of employment here.
The Englander Compromise of 2022
This short video is a street-level experience mapping the relocation of a Victorian house six blocks to its new location on Fulton Street in San Francisco in early 2022. The film demonstrates the on-going struggle between two desires in our city:
- The desire to build more housing, and
- The desire to preserve the Victorian architecture from being demolished to make way for new housing.
Membership meetings often have a guest speaker and lecturer to further our knowledge and understanding of the Bay Area. A recent membership meeting had a guest lecturer and expert who spoke about Van Ness Street in San Francisco and the lovely mansions built by the titans of industry that once lined that street.
